Low Sugar Protein Bars
Low sugar on the front of a wrapper usually means the sugar was swapped for something else. What it was swapped for is the part worth reading.
The sugar alcohol trade
Maltitol, erythritol and sorbitol let a bar post a low sugar number while still tasting sweet. They are also the most common reason a healthy bar leaves people bloated or running for a bathroom. Resist bars contain no sugar alcohols at all.
What we use instead
Monk fruit, plus cacao butter and nut butters for richness. That keeps every flavor between 1g and 2g of total sugar with 4g net carbs.
Low sugar is not enough on its own
A bar can be low in sugar and still be a poor snack if it has no protein or fiber to slow digestion and keep you full. Pair the sugar number with the fiber and protein numbers before you judge a bar. Resist bars carry 14g fiber and 12g to 13g plant protein alongside that 1g to 2g of sugar.
