Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Resist Protein Bars — our ingredients, nutrition, blood sugar science, and more.
About Resist Bars
What makes Resist bars different from other protein bars?
Resist bars are doctor-formulated, clinically tested vegan protein bars designed specifically for stable blood sugar. Unlike most protein bars, we use zero added sugar, no sugar alcohols, no artificial ingredients, and no gums or fillers. Our recipe uses a science-backed ratio of plant protein, fiber, and healthy fats to fuel you without the blood sugar spike or energy crash.
Who founded Resist Nutrition?
Resist was founded by Drew and Emily. When Drew was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance, she couldn't find a protein bar that was high in protein without artificial ingredients or one that used natural ingredients without spiking her blood sugar. She met Emily at NYU, where Emily was completing her Master's in Food Studies, and together they recruited a medical advisory board and created Resist.
Do you have a medical advisory board?
Yes. Our Medical Advisory Board includes Dr. Ami D. Patel (PharmD, BPCS, PCOS Coach), Dr. Samuel Lederman (OB/GYN, FACOG, with 32 years of experience and 17 years directing clinical trials on PCOS), and Dr. Gloria Hakkarainen (OB/GYN, triple board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Bariatric Medicine & Anti-Aging, and Integrative Medicine). Learn more on our Why Resist? page.
Are Resist bars clinically tested?
Yes. We hired an independent investigator, Altus Research, to conduct a clinical trial examining how Resist bars impact blood sugar after consumption. The study followed ISO 26642 testing standards (the international standard for glycemic index testing). Results showed that Resist bars produced a gradual blood sugar response of just 10–20 mg/dL over 90 minutes with no spike or crash — significantly better than three leading competitor bars. See the full results on our Clinical Trial page.

See the full breakdown on our Ingredients page.
Are Resist bars vegan?
Yes. All Resist bars are 100% plant-based and vegan. We use pea protein and brown rice protein instead of whey or other animal-derived proteins.
Are Resist bars gluten-free?
Yes. Resist bars are free from gluten, as well as soy, dairy, gums, and artificial fillers.
Are Resist bars keto-friendly?
Yes. Our bars are designed to be keto-friendly with zero added sugar and a macronutrient profile that supports a ketogenic diet.
Do Resist bars contain sugar alcohols?
No — and this is a big deal. Many protein bars use sugar alcohols (like erythritol, xylitol, or sorbitol) to reduce sugar content, but these can cause bloating, gas, and digestive discomfort. They can also interfere with nutrient absorption. We use monk fruit extract and date/fig-derived sweetener instead.
Do Resist bars contain stevia?
No. We don't use stevia, artificial sweeteners, or sugar alcohols. Our bars are sweetened naturally with monk fruit extract and fruit-derived sweeteners.
Blood Sugar & Health
Are Resist bars good for diabetics?
Our clinical trial showed that Resist bars produce a gradual blood sugar response of just 10–20 mg/dL with no spike or crash. Many of our customers with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes have shared positive experiences. However, we always recommend consulting your healthcare provider before making changes to your diet. *These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
Are Resist bars good for PCOS?
Resist was literally born from the PCOS experience — co-founder Drew created these bars after being diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance. Our low glycemic recipe is designed to avoid the blood sugar spikes that can worsen PCOS symptoms. Our medical advisory board includes specialists in PCOS and hormonal health. *Individual results may vary. Consult your healthcare provider.
My blood sugar is fine — can I still benefit from Resist bars?
Absolutely! Blood sugar spikes are inflammatory for everyone, not just those with diabetes or PCOS. Resist bars are great if you want to:
- Avoid inflammatory blood sugar spikes
- Increase your antioxidant intake
- Get more protein without hormones or antibiotics found in whey
- Avoid gut disruption from sugar alcohols and gums
- Skip the 3pm energy crash
Can I use Resist bars as a meal replacement?
Resist bars are great between meals, while traveling, or in a pinch — but we don't believe any packaged food can fully replace a balanced meal. They're designed as a nutritious snack, not a complete meal replacement.
What does "low glycemic" mean?
Low glycemic foods have a glycemic index (GI) of 55 or below, meaning they cause a slow, gradual rise in blood sugar rather than a sharp spike. This helps maintain steady energy levels, reduces inflammation, and supports hormonal balance. Our clinical trial confirmed that Resist bars produce a stable blood sugar response.
