My PCOS and Insulin Resistance story
When I was diagnosed at 18, my doctor told me there was no “cure”, but exercise and a low carb, low sugar diet would help. So, I threw myself into fitness and bought all the popular protein bars and powders recommended by the influencers.
As my symptoms became much worse (weight gain, acne, hirsutism, anxiety, depression), I didn't understand. I thought I was doing everything right!
After years of collecting research and learning from leading experts, I found that the protein bars that were fine for everyone else, were just not designed with people like me in mind. Instead they contained ingredients that exacerbate our symptoms and hinder our health progress.
Frustrated, I stopped eating them -- too afraid of the long ingredients lists and wrappers coated in endocrine disrupting chemicals....
But when I started juggling two part-time jobs, an internship, and classes at NYU. I was desperate for a filling snack, so I went back to eating bars I knew would make me feel worse.
I was tired of settling for bars with inflammatory ingredients, hormone disruptors, unnatural fillers, and sugars (even natural sources) that I knew would spike my blood sugar like crazy!
Enough was enough -- it was time to make my own bar!
And I didn't just want a bar that left my symptoms alone, I wanted one that actively helped me feel better! Resist Bars were born :)
